This procedure determines the amount of liquid that must be extracted from a hot-filled container before the container collapses.
Six bottles are filled to the rim and capped with a closure containing a septum. A needle placed through the septum is then used to withdraw water from the container until the container begins to collapse. The point of failure and amount of water extracted are reported.
