Purpose
This procedure determines the bulk density of a given material according to the ASTM procedure D1895-89.
Description
A container with a known volume is tared on a scale and filled with the sample to the overfill capacity. The sample is repeatedly tamped in order to help settle the material completely. Additional material is added to overfill capacity and tamped again. This is repeated until no more material can be added. The bulk density is then determined by dividing the weight of material by the container volume.
